Christmas Activities for GC Youth

Ski Lift Tickets Available
We will once again be offering discount tickets to area ski resorts.  Tickets can be purchased at the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Av. Cash or check will be accepted for payment. To learn more about these popular discounts please click here.

Online Registration is Now OPEN!

We are happy to offer the option of online registration with credit card payment for our winter programs.

In order for a family to use the online registration option, you first need to visit our Recreation and Parks Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue to verify residency and their family. Upon verification of residency you will receive a password and instructions as to how to use the website. Residents must visit our office for family verification and password information. Upon completion of these steps please visit our registration site at (do not type "www" in your browser if you input the address). The Recreation and Parks Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Please visit us if you would like another way to enjoy all the Department of Recreation and Parks has to offer or call 465-4075 for more information. You will be able to register and pay with Visa or Mastercard.

Youth Tennis Lesson Registration
We are pleased to announce the start of registration for our Winter Tennis Program for GC youths at the Community Park Tennis Center. Our program is designed for all skill levels and will begin the week of January 5th. Non resident children attending GC Public Schools will be accepted beginning December 22nd.

Garden City Pool Interviews
The Garden City Pool will be holding interviews for 2015 summer positions in the upcoming weeks. To learn more about the interviews and dates please click here.

Gym Programs for Grades K to 6

The Recreation Staff will conduct a gym program for children in grades K to 6. This free program will consist of organized games and activities in a supervised setting. The program will take place in the St. Paul's Field House beginning the week of December 8th.  Click here for an application.
Grades 4-6       Mondays (3:30 - 5:45)
Grades K & 1   Wednesdays (3:30 - 5:00)
Grades 2-3       Fridays (3:30 - 5:45)

Note - children can not leave the facility until parents come in the building to pick up your child.

Mad Science
We will again  offer "Mad Science" as an after school program on Mondays beginning January 5th. This 6 week program will teach the elements of science in a fun setting open to residents grades K - 3. to register please visit

Sat Morning Adult Basketball
Our Saturday adult basketball program will begin on Saturday December 6th in the Middle School south gym. The program will run from 8:30-11:30am each Saturday till February 14th.
This program is open to residents of the village who have graduated high school. It is a free charge and strictly "pick up". For more info please call 465-4075.

New Saturday Hours at Community Park Tennis Center
The Community Park Tennis Center and Platform Courts will be closing at 8pm on Saturday nights during the winter months beginning Saturday, December 6. However, if you are interested in booking a party or event at the Tennis Center or Platform Courts please call 483-2525 and arrangements can be made.

Pee Wee Sports
Our popular pee-wee sports sampler returns this winter for children ages 4 & 5  who are residents of the Village. The six week program is designed to provide opportunities for kids to try a variety of sports with basic instruction. To learn more about this program that begins December 8th please click here. 

Youth Swim Lessons
We will be conducting youth swimming lessons for Village residents at Adelphi University's Swimming Pool in Woodruff Hall Saturday mornings.  This 10 week program will begin December 6th. To register please click here.

Floor Hockey Registration
We are proud to announce we will once again offer our Floor Hockey program this winter on Friday evenings at St. Paul's Field House for residents.  Our program  has various of leagues for kids kindergarten through 6th grades. To download an application please click here.

Arbor Restoration Plan for Garden City

The Arbor Restoration Plan for Garden City has been compiled a team of graduate students from Cornell University Department of Landscape Architecture with the approval of the Chairperson of the Urban Horticulture Institute at Cornell University, Department of Horticulture. Recommendations include tree selection guides as a basis to find the right tree species and cultivar for the right size planting spaces. Special patented structural soils will be included in all planting specifications when obtained from sole source distributors. Questions pertaining to this report can be directed to the Village Department of Recreation and Parks who oversees the village tree inventory and the overall tree planting and maintenance plan.

Village Markers Section Introduced!
To call attention to the extensive history of Garden City, the Village has installed Historic Markers at various locations and is in the process of adding more.  As part of the project, a Markers page has been established to provide more information on the subjects and links to other data sources.  The markers will all be provided with QR (Quick Response) codes to allow those interested to access the Markers page directly by photographing the code with a Smartphone app. The Markers page can also be accessed now by visiting our Village Markers page. 


The Department of Recreation and Parks have been busy planning a variety of activities for our residents to enjoy during the upcoming months.  We hope you will join in with the many other residents of Garden City who take part in the programs and activities we provide.  We realize the amount of options to choose from, we worked extra hard to make our programs worthy of both your time and participation.
